Collections
The library’s collections offer something for everyone. You can borrow books, magazines, films, records, music and games, among other things. You can access e-resources on your own device anywhere and anytime. The library’s material is mainly in Finnish, but there is also material in foreign languages, particularly fiction.
E-resources
The library offers numerous free e-services where you can read e-books and magazines, listen to audiobooks, watch films, enjoy music or learn how to play an instrument or sing. There are more than 200 Finnish e-newspapers available for reading on site at the library. The e-resources are shared by all Kirkes libraries. You can access the services via the Kirkes online library. To use e-resources, you need your library card number and PIN. If you do not have a PIN, you can get it at the library’s customer service desk by presenting a photo ID.
E-books, audiobooks and digital journals
You can find e-books, audiobooks and digital journals in the E-library, which is a shared service for municipalities. The service is provided by the National Library of Finland in cooperation with public libraries.
The E-library is used through E-library application, which you can install on mobile devices from the App Store and Google Play.
The E-library contains material in Finnish, Swedish and English. Some material is also available in other languages.
You can borrow e-books and audiobooks for two weeks, after which they will be automatically returned. You can read journals for two hours at a time.
The E-library will replace Ellibs Online Library. Ellibs will be phased out gradually and starting from October 2024, you can no longer place books on hold.
The ePress newspaper service remains unchanged, and you will continue to be able to read online newspapers on the library’s computers.
Cineast film service
The Cineast.fi service has domestic and foreign films for adults and children. The service can be used online or downloaded as an application for a smart device. You can watch four movies per month free of charge when you log in using your library card number and PIN.
Freely available e-resources
In addition to the library’s own e-resources, there are a lot of free resources available online. The Kirkes online library provides links to e-resources that can be read, viewed and listened to free of charge.
There are also many free search databases and services online that provide useful and interesting information on culture and society. For example, the Libraries.fi service offers a lot of interesting information.
